We recently visited the site of our affordable housing development in Chirbury, set within the beautiful Shropshire Hills. The homes are being constructed by SJ Roberts on behalf of Shropshire Rural Housing Association, and it’s great to see the project progressing smoothly. The weather was perfect, with clear blue skies providing ideal conditions for a productive progress meeting and site inspection.
A key feature of this development is the use of prefabricated timber frame construction, supplied by Lowfield Timber, which brings a number of benefits. The lightweight nature of timber, combined with the prefabrication process, allows for faster construction. Just two weeks ago, there was no above-ground structure on the site, but now, nine of the 13 timber frames are either partially or fully installed. External windows and doors are already in place, and the remaining frames are set to be completed within the next 10 days.
The timber frame construction also offers excellent thermal performance, helping the homes meet and exceed regulatory U-values for energy efficiency. The natural insulating properties of timber contribute to enhanced airtightness, ensuring that the homes will be comfortable and energy-efficient for future residents. This is further supported by the installation of Grant Air Source Heat Pumps, which will provide an efficient and low-carbon heating solution for the homes.
It’s exciting to see the project taking shape so quickly, and we’re looking forward to watching the homes come to life. This development not only addresses the need for affordable housing but also contributes to a more sustainable future for the village of Chirbury. We’re proud to be part of this project and look forward to its continued progress.
