We’re delighted to share the completion of The Orchard in Chirbury – a landmark rural housing development now welcoming its new residents.
Developed through an exceptional partnership between Shropshire Rural Housing Association, SJ Roberts Construction, Lowfield Timber, Powis Estates, Homes England, and Shropshire Council, the project exemplifies what can be achieved when collaboration and vision come together. The homes are all socially rented, designed with a strong sense of place, using materials and detailing that reflect Chirbury’s rural vernacular and landscape character.
The development also enhances village connectivity and supports local social value – from new pedestrian links and school engagement programmes to direct economic benefits for nearby shops and trades. Above all, The Orchard demonstrates that affordable rural housing can be both beautiful and sustainable, providing homes that people are proud to live in.
We are thrilled that this scheme has been shortlisted in the CIH Housing Awards 2025 for “Best Affordable Housing Development (£0–£5m)”. This recognition celebrates the dedication of everyone involved in bringing this vision to life.
Seeing residents now move into their new homes is a proud moment for all partners – a tangible reminder that great design and genuine collaboration can help rural communities thrive for generations to come.
